![]() There's really no "right answer" for such things.so much as there's "right for you". So, I fully understand the "value" of "overpaying" for PCs. I don't fully even have an explanation-Windows isn't incapable.and Ms Pop's not an idiot.but, hell if she can keep an internet PC running stable over the long run. but, also as a guy who will HAPPILY pay the "apple premium" for MsPop's machines.because I can show you how much time it saves me in support. Not to mention, what if you order those pieces and something doesn't work? How do you even know what's not working? I'm playing devil's advocate, being a computer guy, I DO know (mostly) how to troubleshoot what isn't working.and know that buying name brand parts, out of the box failure is fairly rare. What's the point? You're also paying for it to show up ready to go. Oh-and I'd probably add a smaller SSD for the OS too-so figure that in.another $100-200 bring it up close to the price Sweetwater but for a beefier machine. If I were actually going to build this (actually thinking about it) I would add a second video card (+$60) and upgrade the drives to the Seagate SV35.5 ST3000VX0 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s which adds another $100 or so to the total coming in around $2300 and change. They use "Lifetime" brand memory which NewEgg doesn't carry so I substituted G Skill. #1101590 - 01/31/12 09:40 PM Re: Building a Better DAW - Part 1Īs far as I can tell, they actually do use fairly high-quality components. I'm just saying-that's a single decision you need to make along with your "how many tracks at once.how many total" thing. Dedicated drives, potentially two RAID0'd become needed. UAD plugs in counts get too low taking them off the table. Not to make this all more complicated.but, you need to give thought to whatever you want to record at 96k. Shouldn't have to.digital is capable, digress. While I bitch about the loss of fidelity I'd have moving from the 's more about the amount of money I'd have to spend to get back there-analog monitor mixing and summing. Mark my words, over the next five years, we will see more and more small format, hi fidelity analog mixers as it solves both shortcomings. ![]() A nice analog summing unit solves the mixer, well-not using it. A cheap analog mixer solves tracking monioring. What's sad about that is that the mixer sonics still sucks and monitoring is still super lame. ![]() Nightmares I've had are 99% related to MIDI/Virtual dio production on the PC is mature tech, IMO, like a word processor. You wouldn't neccessarily even need audio hardware, depending on how you're working and the machine involved. Program drums, render, import into whatever. BTW.just going to throw this out there.the virtual drummer should NOT be the reason to change platforms.ĮZ Drummer or Addictive Drums.whatever drum machine app.will run on just about any PC.
